Miniature Christmas
light sets have two key components, a filament and a shunt.
The filament supplies the light and when it burns out the shunt
device is what keeps the rest of the set lit. In order for all
the lights to illuminate, electrical current must pass through each
of them because they are wired in series. When a light set or part of a light set goes out, it's because the shunt device has failed causing a break in the
electrical current. This is where your frustration begins!
With the
mini light repair machine there is no need to remove the defective
light set from the decorations prior to repairing them. You can repair it on the spot. To fix
your light set, simply plug the defective set into the machine and push the
red button. This will send a surge of electrical current
through the set, repairing the defective shunt. Now that your
light set is illuminated and fixed, the next step is the most
important. Find the light bulbs that are not illuminated and
replace them. Why do I
have to do this? Most 50 and 100 mini light sets use a bulb
capable of handling 2.5 volts. 100 light sets are simply two
50 light sets wired together on separate circuits with one plug.
This is why only half a light set will burn out sometimes.
When a light bulb burns out of a mini light set the voltage of the
illuminated bulbs increases. When this happens, other bulbs
begin to burn out faster because they cannot support the increased
voltage and before you know it the set doesn't work. The mini
light repair machine will also detect a broken bulb. While
pressing the red button on the machine, you might hear a buzzing
sound. This means you have a broken bulb in your light set or
a bad fuse.
A broken bulb will not allow electrical current through it, thus
causing the light set not to illuminate. It will also cause
the broken bulb to arch, illuminating it just enough to see it.
If the fuse is bad the plug will buzz just as if it were a broken
bulb. When searching
for a broken bulb It is VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO TOUCH THE BROKEN BULB
while the light set is plugged into the mini light repair machine.
Unplug the set from the machine first, prior to replacing the broken
bulb or touching the defective light set to avoid getting shocked or
electrocuted.
In short the mini light repair machine is a time, frustration and
money saving break through for the Christmas decorator in you.
